someone once quoted gandhi to me, but i don't actually think it was gandhi, saying that man can only be happy when what he says, what he believes and what he does are all in harmony.. how many of us led lives that meant all three of those were at loggerheads whilst jws?.
i came out as gay when still a witness, to my family first and then my friends.
they were all accepting of me, to varying degrees, but accepting.. i even asked the elders for help.
"But now I am thinking I'd rather be unable to talk to my family, but that they know I'm happy; than not be completely honest with them and keep in contact."
If that's the way you feel, then it's easy-peasy. DA yourself and send occasional letters to your family to assure them of your continued health and happiness. If they love you more than they love the WT, maybe they'll even answer back.

16 job held high the name of jehovah ***.
even when crushed by the news of the death of his children, job did not ascribe anything improper to god.
"Can you imagine a parent (God) being approached by another person questioning the motives of their adult child for loving them and then allow this person to kill their grandchildren, their employees, and finally infecting them with a horrible, painful illness?"
Ding stated that God allows these things to build character in the victim, not to prove his children love him best.
I don't see how Job's character was any better after the calamities he experienced. The only result I saw was that Job got new children, employees, and animals.
No loving parent, heck, not even an extremely abusive one, would allow all the things God allowed to one of his favored children. God is as evil as Satan in that parable. In a court of law, he would be considered an accessory to murder and get the needle.

Ding: " Parents often allow their children to make bad decisions which have painful consequences.... If this analogy is a good one, then God is more concerned with the development of character than will making some point about sovereignty. "
Many years ago, my 10-year-old niece ran in front of a car, lingered in a coma for a month, and then died.
How did God's allowing this "bad decision" develop my brother-in-law's character?

My dub brother has been married to a mentally disturbed dub for 40 years (she wasn't like that when they married), was screwed over my his dub business partner, and is now in his 60s, nearly destitute, and has a menial job working for a dub half his age.
His fellow dubs at the KH say he's being "tested." My dub mother nearly goes into hysterics trying to understand what her son could have done so wrong that Jehovah has allowed him to be "tested" for so many years.
I always hoped that my mother would come to understand that Jehovah's allowing my brother to be tested is the same as inflicting the pain himself. But no -- Jehovah can do no wrong.
So she goes on believing that it's ok for Jehovah to stand by while Satan keeps stabbing my brother in the back.
Sick, perverse thinking.
don't get me wrong, this forum currently has plenty of interesting discussions and posters, but, for those of you who weren't on the old jwd board in the early-to-mid-00s, man...i'm sorry but you really missed out on the glory years of this forum.
it was really a special, unique place then.
again, not dissing the current, but, that huge exciting wave of ex-jw internet activity that occurred in the early part of this century seems to have leveled off.
Farkel: " The regulars at that time said we 'disrupted their quite little 'coffee shop' atmosphere.' "
"Disrupted"? You H20 guys were more like a hand grenade thrown into a coffee shop.
he stayed inside and kept going about his business like they weren't even there.
i engaged them on the verandah hut politely explained that they'd caught us at a bad time as we were doing a big cleanup of the house.
the elders had even bought a pack of chocolate cookies around, so they were expecting to be invited in and offered coffee.
JO: The biscuits are tim tams- irresistible! I'm eating them now lol. They left them with me and said I owe them a cup of coffee next time they come round.
If the cookies are that good, you should at least have let them put a foot inside your house before shutting the door on them.
Next time they come around (and it sounds like they will), set up the coffeemaker on the front step, close the door, and let them drink it outside. Make sure the coffee is of the same quality as the cookies. Fair's fair.
matthew 6:14-15new revised standard version (nrsv).
14 for if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you; 15 but if you do not forgive others, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.. .
at least on a superficial interpersonal level the above scripture requires the victim to forgive the offender in order to be forgiven in turn.
I'm not a Bible believer, but for me, forgiveness means taking the evil of the perpetrator no farther. The buck stops with me.
For example, I was emotionally abused by my parents and the WTS when I was a kid. My forgiveness consists of not emotionally abusing my own family. It does not include excusing my parents and the WTS of their offenses. Neither does it mean I will ignore the WTS and dubs as they harm others. That's why I'm here, to try to help just a little bit.
It may seem like a narrow definition of forgiveness, but it's one I can live with.
does anyone play the mouth harp?
if anyone cares, the harmonica is the first human instrument played outside of earths orbit.
it was smugglked onto an apolloo craft.
Harmonicas, bagpipes, accordians, banjos -- these are all instruments I could easily live without (with a few exceptions).
leaving the witnesses was for me a result of asking myself distubing questions, which infomed me " mike its not what you think, its how you think" and as a result iam what was a dub but is a dub no more .so here i am hete today !!.

Mike: " as a result iam what was a dub but is a dub no more. "
Never heard it put quite that way before, but we get the message. The "dub no more" is the important part.
